Cost-leadership and differentiation are the two different strategies, with the cost leadership focusing more on lower cost for the products or services. Differentiation focuses more so on the unique services and features from the company. Although there are two distinct business strategies, there is also the strategy of blue oceans, where a company can attempt to combine both cost leadership and differentiation. Although this is explained, it is also not recommended considering the difficulties that utilizing this strategy can pose (Rothaermel, 2020). Although at first glance, blue oceans may seem more attractive and appealing when trying to decipher which strategy to focus more on, this can cause firms and companies to be œstuck in the middle. What this means is when a company is focused more on combining the two distinct business strategies, instead of focusing on just one, they tend to become a unit that does offer low cost or unique services and features to set them aside from a saturated market place and industry.
