While there are a number of factors that can contribute to childhood obesity, two factors that are modifiable and are relatively easy to address are eating habits and levels of physical activity. The purpose of this paper is to lay out a general plan for addressing childhood obesity in the state of Pennsylvania. The plan entails providing educational information both about childhood obesity itself and on the prevalence of childhood obesity on a local and state level. The plan also involves initiatives aimed at increasing the levels of physical activity, with an emphasis on incorporating short periods of physical activity throughout the day. Communication will be tailored to the specific population that is being targeted to ensure understanding. Lastly, a number of outcomes such as knowledge levels and amount of daily physical activity will be monitored to ensure that the interventions are having a positive effect on both childhood obesity and on the overall health of children.
