The original policy was created in 1968 where a decision in Terry v. Ohio, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that police officers could stop and frisk individuals based on reasonable suspicion that a crime was being committed (U.S. Department of Justice, Retrieved 2022). After years, policy makers determine that “stop and frisk” was deemed unlawful and that many individuals were wrongfully targeted for crimes they werent committing.
