Lab Report 4 Experiment #18 R-C Circuits Owen Van Sickle Lab Partner: James Wachala TA: Amrutha Krishna October 22nd, 2019 Abstract: The experiments within this lab were designed to study R-C ... circuits, or circuits that contain both resistors and capacitors. Similar to the experiment surrounding DC circuits, the concepts of voltage and current were studied as they related to the specific setups within the experiment. In exploring the ways in which voltage and current behaved in R-C circuits when capacitors and resistors were wired in both series and parallel configurations, more knowledge was gained about how electrical concepts within physics truly work. One consistent focus of each investigation within the experiment was the concept of the time constant, which is a constant represented by the equation τ=RC . The three investigations sought to study the charge and discharge of a capacitor, and to also study two capacitors connected in series and parallel configurations. This experiment expanded on topics studied in lecture such as Kirchhoff’s Laws, Ohm’s Law, and capacitance. [Show More]
