WEEK 1 - Share with the class the name of your disease process assigned to you by your faculty this week. Please tell us if this is a disease that you have encountered in caring for patients in your ... nursing practice. Feel free to share a practice exemplar. If this is an entirely new disease that you will learn about, please tell us if it relates to your nursing practice in terms of the populations for which you care. Good evening Dr. McCall and classmates, The disease process assigned to me is Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). I work on a Med-Surg floor with the majority of the patients I take care of are ortho and urology cases, and most of my patients present this diagnosis in their history and physical. It is interesting to note based on a community-based cohort and updated meta-analysis that low circulating Mg was associated with higher CAD risk than was higher Mg. Low serum magnesium (Mg) concentrations have been associated with higher coronary artery disease (CAD) risk (Rooney et al., 2020). Whether increasing Mg concentrations within healthy limits is a useful strategy for CAD prevention remains to be seen. I remember a time when I called health care providers for orders, and they would always anticipate me to know what their magnesium level is. [Show More]
