*NURSING > DISCUSSION POST > NURS 6521 Week 1 Discussion Thread:Post a description of the patient case from your experiences, obs (All)
Post a description of the patient case from your experiences, observations, and/or clinical practice from the last 5 years. Then, describe factors that might have influenced pharmacokinetic and phar... macodynamic processes of the patient you identified. Finally, explain details of the personalized plan of care that you would develop based on influencing factors and patient history in your case. Be specific and provide examples. Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Many health care providers must deal with patients who have a history of illicit drug use. When medications such as psychostimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, nicotine, and alcohol are part of a patient's history, they can be significant causes of mortality and morbidity rates. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic medications can play a role in how these substances will absorb and metabolize in a patient's body. According to Rosenthal & Burchum 2019, "pharmacokinetics is the study of drug movement throughout the body. There are four basic pharmacokinetic processes: absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. By applying knowledge of pharmacokinetics to drug therapy, a provider can help maximize beneficial effects and minimize harm based on these four processes" (Rosenthal & Burchum, p. 23). Regarding pharmacodynamics, "Is the study of biochemical in physiological effects of drugs on the body and the molecular mechanisms by which those effects are produced" (Rosenthal & Burchum, p. 23).
