Analyze the Applied Research Study Everhart (2004) performed a study of kindergarten and first grade special students to determine if they are able to recall color words after intervention. She used... three data sources - flashcard method, color word assessment sheet, and sign language survey - to determine students’ recall of color words. This paper will be analyzing the paper on the various aspects to understand its theoretical fundamentals, theory, thesis, and ethical challenges. Theoretical fundamentals Owing to Everhart (2004) to help the special needs’ learners to get their hands on the recall of color words, sign language was used to achieve this. The author further stated that three data sources were used to measure students’ ability to recall color words because they assisted the use of sign language to achieve the aim of the study and these were flashcards, a color word assessment sheet, and a sign language survey. Everhart before engaging in her new study used strategies like "visual pictures, repetition of directions, restating the direction, and modeling" to help drive home concepts and understanding (p. 1). The purpose of the author engaging in this new study was to introduce fingerspelling and sign language in helping learners recall color words. The author claimed to have used a multisensory strategy to provide kinesthetic, visual, and oral approaches to help learners recall color words. She further asserted that the use of sign language helped learners to build on their strengths and made them "become more independent in their work" (p. 1). The context of the study involved an elementary school with a population of about 400 in Iowa with its needs and challenges.
