Film Studies > ESSAY > "The Searchers" and "Broken Arrow" (All)
The paper is a comparative analysis of two characters from two different films: Ethan Edwards from The Searchers Tom Jeffords from Broken Arrow... While each film is unique in terms of its plot and aspects of the story being told, in general both films feature a main non-Indian character and his interactions and connections to Indians in the American southwest during the 1870s. While Ethan Edwards has some involvement with the Comanche in Texas, Tom Jeffords is involved with the Apache in Arizona. In general, both men have a previous or past involvement with the military, and in the most general sense, both Edwards and Jeffords possess knowledge of Native Americans that shapes their impressions and interactions with them. 1. In what ways are Edwards and Jeffords similar? 2. In what ways are they different? 3. Overall, what do we learn about images of Indians from these films produced in the 1950s from the perspective of these two characters? [Show More]
