Objectives of the Course: 1) Define and illustrate a data base. 2) Discuss the superiority of data base management systems to file processing systems. 3) Argue the advantages of the relational data... base structure over flat file, hierarchical, and network structures. 4) Rationalize the necessity in utilizing formal design methodologies in table and database creation and show the ability to apply these techniques. 5) Perform the logical and physical design of databases and the tables within them as determined through the analysis of information needs and modeling. 6) Demonstrate the use of ERD (Entity Relationship Diagrams) in data modeling and their translation into relational schemas (logical and physical design) 7) Transform poorly organized files into a well-organized data base, including the identification and minimization of data redundancy and the application of normalization techniques. 8) Employ DDL (Data Definition Language) and SQL(Structured Query Language) for database, table, view and index creation [Show More]
