Person... al Navigation Devices have become one of the most needed gadgets for professional in past few years. Win increasing highway infrastructure across the globe PNDs has made travelling easier and safer. The availability of PNDs as GPS in devices such mobile phones, laptops, tablets, etc gives consumers as easy access to directions to their desired locations as compared to hectic maps and signs. Also, PNDs can be more preferred over the current smart phone’s GPS software as navigation can be disturbed due incoming calls, messages or notifications. Also the navigation over phones drains their battery and also depends on A- GPS (assisted). While PNDs with larger device screens and voice commands, also doesn’t rely on mobile data or network and as they are solely designed for navigation they are accurate comparatively. Moreover, has larger battery saving as doesn’t run multiple applications. These devices are indispensible to those travelling to different places looking for excursions and other extensive activities. The PNDs are a smaller device that facilitates the navigation application for travelling. Now, these devices are embedded with GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) technology which provides signals from space transmitting positioning and timing data. In USA Navstar GPS and in Russia GLONASS are based on GNSS. The features that facilitate its success are providing geolocation, offline maps, turn by turn directions, real-time traffic data, weather updates. What are the likely factors that will contribute to winning in this marketplace? The existing market of PNDs has many developers and manufacturers of these devices. But still the major market is shared by companies like Garmin, TomTom, Magellan, Navman, DeLorme, Trimble and Lowrance. Now, with all these major developers of PNDs there are also tech giants such as Sony, Pioneer, Deluo, Holux and Delphi and Destinator and Mio Technology. Now, with these developers for PNDs marketplace has become stiff competition. Now, the factors that will contribute for winning marketplace are collaboration and up gradations. For instance, now as cell phones majorly have apps for navigation developers shall collaborate with cell phone providers to give precise navigation system such TomTom provides to iphone maps. Also, the accuracy and real time data for navigation will be playing major role for developers to succeed. 3. What will be a likely future for PNDs? Personal Navigation Devices were too popular for last few years, but with different emerging technologies under mobile and cell phone devices PNDs have a bit faded away. The reason behind this is that there has been trend for people to use GPS enable phones for navigation. Due to which less people use the dedicated GPS tool for travelling. After 2011, the PND marketplace has seen decline in its global shipments and that is due increasing nature of cell phone technology and its cheap availability.
