POLI 330N Week 1 Assignment: State of Powers: State if Illinois and The United States Bill of Rights

Document Content and Description Below

State Powers When it comes to the Constitution in Ohio, they are divided into different Articles. Many of these articles have been adopted from the resemblance of the United States Constitution of ... 1851. What is a constitution? It is a “basic framework of law for a nation that prescribes how government is to be organized, how government decisions are to be made, and what powers and responsibilities the government shall have” (Greenberg, 2018). In article one the Ohio state constitution is the Bill of Rights. This article breaks down into many different rights citizens are expressed in the state of Ohio. Residents of Ohio are free to express their right to practice religion without discrimination. An example of religious freedom includes freedom to evangelize in public and not be punished for religious practices, School prayer, and the right to practice and worship in a public ceremony. Ohio's Constitution is unlike the United States Bill of Rights which breaks down into different sections versus its own. In Article 1 this also contains the freedom of speech and press, freedom of assembly, and freedom to petition. In addition to Article 1 of the Ohio State Constitution Bill of Rights, there is the right to bear arms which is the Second Amendment. In that Amendment it states that the security of a free state, the people have the right to keep and bear arms and shall not be infringed (Ohio State Constitution, 2017). In Ohio, resident bear arms should only be used in self-defense purposes. As a resident state of Ohio there is a weight to be able to own a gun. This wait time is because a background check needs to be done in order to prevent suicides, crime, or any violent act that could be pursued. The last bill of rights that I was interested in seeing for the state of Ohio was the preservation of the freedom of choosing Healthcare. This is also included in Article 1 of the Bill of Rights. And this bill of rights residents of Ohio have the privilege of choosing what health insurance they want to purchase even if it is different from an employer for an example. Residents of Ohio also have the right to refuse Health Care being provided by their employment if it does not fit too personal needs and health concerns. Lastly, all Healthcare facilities of Ohio State are to service and not to discriminate against any person who is in ill or harm, regardless of their status of financial displacement.
