As a result of a violation of our social media policy, that led to a staff termination, we have created a task force to educate, train, and enforce the protection of private health information. This staff update will address the issues involving social media use in the workplace and provide tips on what not to do. The Privacy Rule under HIPAA focuses on the use and disclosure of health information. Patients need to provide consent to agree to share their protected health information. (Savage et al., 2020). Under HIPAA, the Security Rule requires safeguards to protect the confidentiality of electronic patient information through administrative, physical, and technical safeguards.(De Simone, 2019).
