The Dilemma: When you see a child with ADHD, should you also evaluate the parents and siblings? Patient Intake: • 26-year-old woman • Has daughter recently diagnosed with ADHD • The last time the patient brought her child to see the psychiatrist, the mother was asked to fill out her own checklist, the Adult ADHD Self Report Scale Symptom Checklist. She endorsed many items, mostly inattentive but not really hyperactive or impulsive including Having trouble wrapping up the final details of a project once the challenging parts have been done. – Difficulty getting things in order. Difficulty remembering appointments or obligations and misplacing things at home and work. Case 3: Volume 2, Case #21: COLLAPSE This case is regarding a 31-year old man whose chief complaint is of having “different types” of anxiety. He is successfully continuing studies in graduate school. He worries about his finances but his worries are intense and mostly constant. He notices that his anxiety began when he started college and has remained through graduate school. He both works and continues school part-time which leaves him feeling like he is being pulled in many directions. He has times when his anxiety reduces but it never goes away. His anxiety causes him to be quick-tempered and argumentative. He is married without children. His father is an alcoholic and was abusive. He states that he has psychological problems with his father but has received beneficial results from psychotherapy. It has also been confirmed that he doesn’t have PTSD from his experiences with his father. He has also been enrolled in an anxiety research study which has helped some. [Show More]
