NR 394 Week 1 Discussion: Diversity in Nursing (Graded) Transcultural nursing is the integration of competency, culture, and dignity for all patients and their families throughout the fi... eld of nursing. This concept encompasses how a nurse interacts with patients, colleagues, families, and other healthcare professionals in the workplace and within the community. Transcultural nursing strives to use understanding and consideration of one’s cultural background in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for their patients. According to our textbook, transcultural nursing is defined as the combination of nursing and anthropology as an enhanced knowledge within the specialty of nursing using culture and care as the forefront (Andrews & Boyle, 2020). Another researcher analyzed the importance of transcultural nursing and the health of the population (Pacquiao, 2019). The usage of transcultural nursing is essential to understanding the beliefs and lifestyle of one’s community (Pacquiao, 2019). My passion for travelling and learning about other cultures were both important reasons why I decided to take this course. I understand that it is very valuable to understand another’s point of view and the rationale on one’s decision making process. Transcultural nursing uses both nursing and the cultural influence to help nurses become more competent in providing care to all populations. I would like to learn more about how to become a nurse who can function efficiently on a global scale, using both my clinical skills and increasing my ability to provide meaningful education to my patients. My goal is that this course will provide me with a deepened insight on how to care for my patients, effectively communicate with both my patients and their families, and how to maximize my ability to work with individuals of varying backgrounds and cultures.
