A Comparison with the Allegory of the Cave and the Upper World and Ethical Positions Plato's Allegory of the cave presents shadows in the cave wall as they are shown to be perceived as actual arrange... ments. We seek to analyse the parallels between the upper hand by Fadugba and The Allegory of the cave and compare both with ethical positions. In the Allegory of the cave, we visualise prisoners who had been shackled since their birth in a cave. Their heads are chained while their limbs are immobilized. This was meant to maintain their eyes fixed on the cave wall. An enormous fire is behind the prisoners, and between them, is fire. Also is an elevated walkway where figures of different plants and animals are passed. These shapes are made to cast shadows on the cave wall to subjugate the responsiveness of these prisoners fully. On the other hand, The Upper World involves two main characters, Esso and Rhia, who happen to be in trouble while at the same time running out of time. When Esso realises his power to see future glimpses, he becomes haunted by a bullet vision fired on the alleyway with consequences. The author presents this fear as a hindrance to realizing the future. A generation later, Rhia desperately searches for answers in which a past catastrophic moment holds the response to an understanding about parents she never came to interact with. Like the cave characters, Rhia's and Esso's worlds must collide in a mysterious world. Like in the cave, London, where Esso grows up, is surrounded by violence and the young Londoner tries to attain his potential by despising it. Similar to coming out of the cave, Esso reappears in 2035, according to the book, which leads him to Rhia, who is in foster care. The story's connection to Plato’s ‘upper world’ is brought about while Esso tries to explain some maths and physics concepts. According to him, both subjects require imagination. Physics needed Rhia to believe by looking at different lines of maths written down on a paper where a fuller version of the world would come to mind.
