List the additional questions you would need to ask this patient. Explain. I would first ask Ms. BD to give me full details into her past medical history and/or surgeries. I would also ask her to if... there are any other medications that she is currently taking and ones that she has taken in the past. Just like in the ER what I regularly do with my patients who have a history of hypertension, I would ask this patient how have her blood pressure readings been at home. Asking Ms. BD about her BPs would give me an insight into how her hypertension has been doing and if the medication she is currently on has been working effectively. What is the safety profile of Lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazide and bismuth subsalicylate in pregnant women? What are the possible complications to the pregnant woman and her fetus? The use of Lisinopril-HCTZ, also known as Prinzide, act on the renin-angiotensin system during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy reducing fetal renal function and increases feral and neonatal morbidity and death (Prinzide, 2012). Some other complications while on this medication while pregnant include hypotension, kidney failure, and even developmental problems. Its safe to say that this would be a drug heavily contraindicated in women who are pregnant. Bismuth subsalicylate, also known by the brand name Pepto-Bismol, Nall (2018) states that there is absence of research surrounding whether or not the drug is safe. For this reason, it may not be wise to take this medication. Furthermore, just like aspirin, it has salicylate which is known to cause GI bleeds. How might the laboratory values, in this case, impact your treatment plan? Monitoring labs of any patient help ensures effective and most importantly safe medication therapy. A side effect that happens but isn’t common while taking Prinzide is that of hypokalemia. My concern with this patient would be the consistent vomiting she is having without relief coupled with the fact that she is on Prinzide, would make me pay close attention to her electrolytes and make sure they aren’t depleting. I also would monitor samples throughout the pregnanc [Show More]
